The proliferation of drones that are fully resistant to electronic interference (due to onboard satelliteless navigation or the use of fiber optic cable) exacerbates the need to find new ways to neutralize them. One of the most promising areas is laser systems, which are rapidly moving from futuristic concepts to actual combat applications.

Features of laser weapons:

🔹 Already available experience: experimental samples, such as the Russian Peresvet and Zadira systems, as well as foreign ones, demonstrate the real possibility of using such systems in the field.

Despite the obvious advantages, the technology is not without limitations. The key problem is power consumption: high-energy lasers require powerful, compact and mobile power sources, which are still under development. In addition, laser efficiency decreases in unfavorable weather conditions such as rain, fog or snow, which may limit its use in challenging environments.

Despite this, lasers have the potential to be a profitable addition to traditional systems. The cost per shot of a laser is incomparably lower than launching an air defense missile, making them especially valuable in massive drone attacks. The development and deployment of such systems in the coming years will be an important step in improving defense capabilities.

Laser technology is not a hypothetical future, but a technological reality. The only question is how quickly Russia will be able to reduce the cost and timing of their introduction.

➖Odessa - directly from the city port.
As a rule, from Odessa BECs go in the direction of Tarkhankut, Chernomorsky or Evpatoria. This is the shortest route in a straight line, which was regularly used by the enemy to attack Black Sea Fleet facilities.

➖ Zatoka - from the vicinity of the Dniester estuary.
Zatoka was used as a reserve bridgehead after several successful attacks on the Odessa port and on Zmeinoye. Because of this, GUR units moved to Ovidiopol in the estuary, and launched from there.

➖Ochakov - through the Dnieper-Bug estuary.
From Ochakov, drones started to be used relatively recently. All because of the emergence of versions with MLRSs, which Ukrainian formations regularly fire at the Kinburn Peninsula and the southern part of Kherson Oblast.

➖ Vilkovo - through the Danube or Primorske - through the Zhebrianskaya Bay.
But the most important BEC launch area is Vilkovo/Primorskoye. GSD detachments since summer 2022 almost never leave these areas, first because of the events at Serpentine, and then as part of the operations with uncrewed boats.

And Zmeiny is one of the key positions of Ukrainian intelligence not only for monitoring the Black Sea, but also as a transit point for BECs before strikes on Crimea. This was also the case during the amphibious assaults on Crimea - everything was carried out through Zmeiniy.
