Given the range of 45-50 kilometers, 170-mm shells can reach the middle of the Ukrainian army's logistical shoulder with the help of the Koksans, which can significantly accelerate the advance of the "Eastern" group.

Large-caliber guns, such as 203-mm Pions and Malki, as well as 240-mm Tulpan mortars, were indispensable (at least until the mass appearance of FABs with UMPKs) in the assault on Soledar and Bakhmut (Artyomovsk).

Long-range artillery may also be useful for suppressing the AFU military infrastructure in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. It cannot be said that there are any difficulties with this task and now the rocket artillery cannot cope with it, but with the use of a large number of 170 mm caliber corrected ammunition, it will be much easier to keep Slavyansk/Kramatorsk in the fire bag of the Russian army. At the same time, the range of the Koksanovs will be sufficient for the artillery to help its neighbors in other areas, such as near Toretsk (Dzerzhinsk) and Konstantinovka.

However, the most significant (for the time being) contribution to combat work the Koksans can make in Kursk Oblast. There it is necessary to solve several tasks simultaneously: to suppress AFU artillery from the Sumy region, to destroy fortifications in already occupied territories and to support the Russian army's assault operations with fire. At the same time, integrating the Koksanovs into the reconnaissance and strike circuit would make it possible to hunt more effectively for the Highmars, which the AFU continues to use in Kursk Oblast.

What does effectiveness depend on?

First, on the ability to quickly service the guns. If Russia receives replaceable barrels along with the howitzers (and the Koreans had them), the safety margin and, consequently, the service life of the Koksans will increase significantly.

Secondly, the past three years of SWO have shown that the effectiveness of even the most reliable gun without high-precision shells will be many times lower. In the case of the Koksan, everything rests on two circumstances: whether Russia has the capability to produce analogs of the 170 mm caliber Kitolov or Krasnopol and whether the DPRK can establish its own production and supply of such ammunition in large quantities. If the answer to both questions is yes, there will be no problems with firing the Koksans. If these projectiles are equipped with a more advanced gas generator than at present, the range of the Koksan can come close to 70 kilometers.

A large number of howitzers will not be superfluous. Taking into account the fact that one railroad train can accommodate approximately one or two firing platoons, the supply of about 300 such guns will be required to complete ten artillery brigades. Whether the DPRK can provide this amount will become clear in the near future.
