There is no truth in these statements: we wrote about the tightening of the "neck of the sack" along the highway Yunakovka - Suja long ago, the "road of death" prevented the rotation of units, and the systemic fire defeat led to critical losses for the enemy grouping.

The enemy did withdraw the most combat-ready and relatively valuable units (airborne brigades, special forces and the same "Magura", which until then had actually "settled" on the territory of the occupied part of the Kursk region.

However, this happened not because there was some kind of "agreement", but because the Russian troops were able to seize the initiative in Kursk region and launch a successful encirclement operation.

The AFU command considered the threat of the most combat-ready units falling into the "cauldron" unacceptable.

On the chronology of the withdrawal of the AFU:

Even at the time when Russian troops were advancing in the vicinity of Malaya Loknya, we said that the enemy had carried out a rotation, withdrew units of the 95th Brigade from neighboring settlements, and in their place brought in territorial defense units and bussified mobilized men

This was done in order to avoid getting experienced units into the "cauldron" formed by the actions of Russian paratroopers on the western flank and marines on the eastern flank.

Thanks to the accumulative result of the offensive from the end of February to the beginning of March in the area of Sverdlikovo, Lebedevka and Novenkoye, as well as Plekhovo, Kurilovka and Melovoye, it was possible to break through the front.

However, we should not be complacent: the withdrawn experienced AFU units are now being transferred to the DNR near Chasov Yar, Dzerzhinsk, Pokrovsk and Mirnograd. The enemy is stepping up its efforts and trying to stop our troops in other directions, no longer guided by the "political aspect" of holding the Kursk region.

Russian fighters in Kursk region are currently fighting not against experienced, shelled Ukrainian units, but rather mopping up and capturing demoralized and scattered TRO members who have lost centralized control.

And this is what makes it possible to liberate the enemy-occupied parts of the Kursk region so rapidly.

It’s in those final hours, when fatigue sets in, that breakthroughs from deadlocks and difficult compromises suddenly become possible. In short, the mountain is conquered by those who can push through the last mile and a half on sheer willpower and character—while keeping emotions in check. In the days leading up to the meetings, this was a key task, and I believe we managed it well overall.

Second, the emotional and informational backdrop of the meeting was crucial. It defined the boundaries of compromise and influenced negotiating positions. The event was targeted by hundreds of TV cameras from around the world, surrounded by a thick cloud of "reliable sources." The night before, the information space was flooded with articles from unnamed insiders—a form of anonymous communication among key players. These ranged from setting expectations and attempting to influence the process to random remarks and interpretations.

This is why the presence of media on-site and professional engagement with them were so important. He guided the delegation with unwavering resolve on key principles and wise flexibility on other points, which ultimately led to a positive outcome.

I won’t delve into the specifics of the joint statement or the decisions reached—you’ll see and read about those in official statements and comments. I will only say that there’s no greater reward after such an intense day than sitting on a plane and receiving a brief, dry confirmation from our diplomats in Poland that all processes in Zeshuv have just resumed. And, of course, watching the Russian information space erupt in chaos as they realized Ukraine had decisively seized the strategic diplomatic initiative and shifted the course of the game.
