The company promises up to $500,000 for a vulnerability in which the attacker has to make the victim make one click to crack it, and up to $1.5 million for a method in which the victim does not need to make clicks. For the entire chain of actions that allow an attacker to hack into a Telegram account, the company is ready to pay up to 4 million dollars.
Operation Zero is based in St. Petersburg and is run by Sergey Zelenyuk. Unlike traditional bug bounty platforms such as Hacker One or Bugcrowd, Operation Zero does not warn vendors about vulnerabilities in their products.
Vulnerabilities like the ones described in Operation Zero's announcement are typically bought up by security and intelligence agencies of various countries, or companies associated with them. The most famous of them is the Israeli NSO Group, which developed the Pegasus spyware application based on such vulnerabilities.
