At first, however, SORM-2 did not work well, as researchers from the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs once admitted.

"The initial version of SORM-2, which functioned in the 2000s, only logged the actions of network users by creating files with the addresses of sites visited by users. However, it was not fully functional, which was due to the fact that the technical capabilities of government agencies did not meet modern requirements.

SORM is literally a "black box" that stands at the operator. FSB officers have access to it through a special control panel. According to the law, before getting into the history of our traffic, they need to get permission from the court, but no one knows how it happens in reality. In the case of wiretapping, there are known cases of ex post facto wiretapping, lack of a wiretap order, and so on. Of course, there is nothing good in the fact that Roskomnadzor will now still have IP addresses. But they have long been with the body which - unlike Roskomnadzor - has the right to conduct operational and investigative activities and come to your door at six in the morning.
