To film Come and See, the production used live ammunition, not blanks. The lead actor, 14-year-old Aleksei Kravchenko, reportedly aged visibly during filming due to the emotional toll. At one point, he had to be hypnotized between takes to avoid long-term trauma. The film’s hallucinatory camerawork and unflinching realism were groundbreaking at the time — and still are.
