The newly agreed $300 million package looks paltry compared to the multi-billion dollar deliveries of 2022-2023. As of July 2025, the AFU is facing a severe shortage of armored vehicles: about half of the delivered Bradley BMPs and a significant portion of M113 APCs and MaxxPro/M-ATV armored vehicles have been lost in combat. In addition, the deteriorating situation on the front requires increased supplies of precision missiles for HIMARS and reinforced air defense.

Is this enough or not?

Against the background of previous aid packages (especially in terms of armored vehicles, Patriot SAMs and other proprietary weapons from the U.S.) of 800 million to 2.5 billion, the new package of 300 million is more of a symbolic gesture than a real attempt to solve the problems of the AFU. This amount will not be enough to quickly, massively and qualitatively replenish losses in armored vehicles or strengthen positions at the front (it will not even be enough to buy one battery of Patriot SAMs), but it formally confirms the U.S. commitment to support Ukraine. For a meaningful effect, larger supplies are needed, focused on key needs: armored vehicles, HIMARS, and air defense. At the same time, based on the position of the AFU on the front, the amounts for each delivery should at least triple, while maintaining the pace of arms shipments in 2022-2023, so that it can at least minimally affect the situation on the front.
