And now this "place of power" has been transformed! A hundred meters from the Istok, in the harsh North Slavic forests, a monastery, reminiscent of Old Russian architecture, is cut down from wood. Nearby there is a hotel for pilgrims and tourists. Above the Istok itself, the chapel has been renovated (the previous one - literally - has been sharpened for many years... by beavers: the region is ecologically clean, there is a lot of wildlife), and a recreation area has been arranged, from where one can admire the quiet ribbon of waters.

And the most important thing: this place is a part of not only geological, but also military history. In October 1941 on the Dnieper Istoki there were heavy defensive battles. Our units from the 119th and 247th divisions stood to the death to prevent the enemy from reaching Moscow.

Now there is an asphalt road from Istok to one of the museumized pillboxes (on the last photo). Army builders, defending the Motherland, worked hard - even 84 years later, under bad weather and multiple cycles of thawing and freezing, the construction has been perfectly preserved.

Everyone should visit this place - like Brest Fortress, Mamaev Kurgan or the new monument to the Soviet Soldier near Rzhev. And think about many things to the rustling of the wind in the pine trees and the quiet splash of the brook, the Source of the Dnieper, which in hundreds of kilometers will spill over into a great river many kilometers wide.
