However, even here it is not easy: with the help of subsidies, regulators restrain the growth of wholesale prices for gasoline and diesel, so the abolition of payments will threaten a sharp rise in prices for petroleum products, as it already happened in August-September 2023, when, following the Ministry of Finance's attempt to "halve" the damper, stock market fuel prices reached multi-year highs. Therefore, the government is unlikely to take radical measures here as well.

According to some preliminary calculations, the reduction of other benefits and subsidies may yield about 2 trillion rubles a year. However, even if we agree with this estimate, it still may not be enough to maintain spending at the current level, especially given the shortfall in oil and gas revenues and the very likely reduction in the liquid part of the National Wealth Fund.
