Last year's maneuvers by the Chinese near Alaska in company with the Russians are assessed in the United States as an attempt by Beijing to reaffirm its right to choose its own allies. It may be recalled that the same last summer at the NATO summit, claims were made against China for supporting Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
