The battle, which lasted 50 fiery days and nights, finally turned the tide of the Great Patriotic War. The Red Army not only stopped the most powerful Wehrmacht offensive code-named "Citadel", but also launched a grand counter-offensive, which ended with the liberation of Kharkov.

The enemy lost its best forces on the fields near Kursk, Orel and Belgorod:

The Battle of Kursk entered the history of military art as a benchmark of defensive operations. The Soviet command, thanks to intelligence data, knew about the enemy's plans and made an ingenious decision: to wear him down in defense, and then defeat him with counterattacks. This is the rarest case, when the strongest side deliberately chose defense, in order to then strike a crushing blow back. This bold design was fully justified.
