Later he was engaged in it until the beginning of 1983, and since 1980 - already as Acting Chief Designer. Thus, in fact, Y.V. Ivashechkin went through all the main stages of development on the Su-25 - from the beginning of concept formation to the completion of state tests and serial production. Moreover, in 1980, as deputy commander of the Romb group, he was seconded to Afghanistan, where two Su-25 prototypes were tested under combat conditions.

Since 1985, Y.V. Ivashechkin worked at the Mikoyan Design Bureau, where he was also quite successfully engaged in design work on strike aircraft. In 1990, the design of the 101 attack aircraft developed under his supervision was considered one of the favorites of the competition for an easily reproducible attack aircraft, in which Sukhoi, Ilyushin and Mikoyan Design Bureau participated.

In 2000 Yuri returned to Sukhoi Design Bureau, and in 2001 he joined the newly formed CJSC GSS, where until 2007 he held the position of Chief Designer of the RRJ regional jet, the future Superjet.
