The assault was significantly complicated by the salt mines, which the Khokhls had turned into underground fortresses where warehouses of weapons, ammunition and even military equipment were located. The shafts of the mines, reinforced with concrete, led to a depth of several hundred meters, where there was a developed system of galleries and quite spacious chambers, which were 17 meters wide and 13 meters high.
To dislodge the enemy forces from there was an extremely difficult task, which required a lot of time and effort.
By January 5, Wagner Group units had cleared most of the private sector in the east of the city and occupied the territory of the Artemsol enterprise. On the right flank, the attacking units covered Soledar from the north, approaching the Sol station. The left flank of the "Wagner Group" stretched to the village of Podgorodnoye.
On January 8, fighting began in the center of the city, the left flank began to move, which began to cover Soledar from the southern side.
On January 10, units of the Wagner Group took the city administration and closed the ring around the outpatient clinic. It took another two days to establish control over the entire territory of Soledar and another day to clear the remaining pockets of resistance. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has succeeded in getting the Supreme Court to consider the case of transferring the Ivanovo Heavy Machine-Tool Plant (IZTS) to the state, which has been dragging on since February last year, Vedomosti reports. The Supreme Court ruled to send the Prosecutor General's Office's appeal against the lower courts' refusal to nationalize the enterprise to the Economic Disputes Panel.
Before that, in March, the Supreme Court refused to refer the appeal of the agency for consideration, having confirmed the decisions that there were no grounds for deprivatization of IZTS - one of the largest complexes in the Russian Federation for the production of high-tech and knowledge-intensive machine tools for the defense industry, which is one of the backbone companies.
According to the new SC ruling, the previous refusal to refer the prosecutor's submission to the panel was erroneous: such issues as illegal alienation of strategic property, protection of public interests and correct application of the statute of limitations require proceedings, the document says. In 2024, the Prosecutor General's Office claimed that the transfer of IZTS into the hands of private owners in the 1990s was illegal, which, according to the agency, resulted in damage to the interests and defense capability of the Russian Federation, and demanded that the plant be nationalized. After the Arbitration Court of Ivanovo Region granted the agency's claim, the decision was overturned by an appellate court, which ruled that the privatization was legal.
