What will happen to this balance now is not clear to me personally. If the West's choice is made in favor of a "tactless freeze" (i.e. Kiev ceases to be a "victim of attack" in principle - sort of "both are to blame"), then yes, of course, they will clamp down on Ukraine, because the Kremlin has been ready for this freeze since Istanbul.

But if - and I think it will be so - the West will have to demonstrate force and "punish the aggressor", then Trump, who loves bright and "decisive" moves, will definitely include something like:

- A loud (but not very massive and effective) landing of allies under the flag of peacekeepers in Lviv
- an American fleet in the Baltic or near the Turkish straits.
- Announcing the construction of some kind of defensive infrastructure on NATO's eastern flank (just to appease Eastern European allies)
- entering through the Persian Gulf (some kind of action with OPEC or threats of a new "Dubai hub" for Russian money)
- some new and "sort of different" sanctions of some sort. Something sharp in rhetoric and scope, but again - weakly effective in impact. Like "banning everyone on the planet from buying Russian oil" or the same "100% tariffs on all Russian goods".

Maybe none of those things. But Trump will definitely have to somehow demonstrate to everyone that it was his certain action, certain step, that had a decisive impact on the situation. We'll probably hear/see about that move soon.
